Cataracts are caused by a build-up of protein in the eye, and usually develop because of old age; the condition is caused when the lens of the eye develops cloudy patches and over time these patches usually grow bigger, causing blurry, misty vision and eventually if it is not treated can lead to blindness.  Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. L-Carnosine is an endogenous dipeptide compound that has been designated an “anti aging” molecule due to its ability to delay the deterioration of cells and is available in powder form, which is taken internally with water.   N-acetyl-L-Carnosine, which is the main active ingredient in the eye drops, has demonstrated a reduction in opacification of the lens when used as a direct instillation to the eye.
